A NASCAR Model from Wayne Kepner!!!

Richard Petty's 1968 Daytona 500 Pymouth Satellite

Note From Wayne:
"The so called "vinyl top" car from Daytona in 1968. The car actually had textured paint on the top and it looked like vinyl. The idea was, according to Chrysler engineers, that nothing flows better over air than air. Air would fill the cracks in the textured paint and the air would then flow easier over the top of the car making it faster.

From the start of practice at Daytona, this car had a whistle to it at high speeds. Everyone accused the Petty's of cheating and NASCAR inspected the car several times but found nothing wrong.

In the race, at sustained high speeds the top began too peel back, a weld had been missed just behind the windshield and this made the car whistle when air was forced thru this crack at high speeds."
