Jerry Nadeau's 1999 MELLING TRIBUTE Taurus

some decals by 3 Amigos!

Story from Steve:
"Melling Racing's founder and leading spirit passed away on May 29, 1999. Harry Melling, 54, had led the team to great success beginning in the early 80s, teaming up with Bill Elliot and Coors Sponsorship to become a force in Nascar. Melling won the Winston Cup in 1988 and the inaugural Winston Million in 1985.

In honor of Harry, the Melling racing team ran a special red paint scheme at Michigan on June 13, 1999. Red was used because it was both Harry Melling's favorite color and the color on the winning machines of the 1980s. The decklid logo of "For Harry! We miss you" was added in place of the regular graphics as a tribute.

The rest of the scheme was basically the same as the regular Dexter's Lab ride. I made up the decklid graphics in Microsoft word (I used the Ariel font, which matched my references), and used a scan of the Dexter's lab sheet to create the white numbers. Mr. Nascar resized the numbers to the proper specs and added the black outlines, and we had a conversion sheet! The TV panel on the car was made by cutting out a circular Melling logo from the Dexter's sheet.

The conversion sheet has the side and roof numbers, the headlight and TV panel numbers, and the "For Harry!" graphic. Two copies of everything are provided to prevent bleedthough, especially over the orange roof number from the original Dexter's sheet.

Thanks to Mr. Nascar and the 3 Amigos for helping put together this project."
