NASCAR Models by Roger JonesSterling Marlin's "COORS NONALCOHOLIC" Monte Carlo decals by 3 Amigos!

Pretty standard process. TS Primer over a stripped and sanded Elite. TS40 Metallic Black with TS21 Gold (and a touch of thinner) airbrushed on to the base. I taped off the grill line on the front nose to keep the gold from creeping too high on the nose- which was just a personal preference. Several light coats of TS13 Clear and I was ready to decal.

The decals were simply amazing. They melted right into the paint. Used a little MicroSol and MicroSet but aside from the roof decal onto the roof flaps they were really both unnecessary. The decals were just spectacular. The contingencies were a blending of what I got from Sam and a individual 1998 contingency set that I got from Slixx. The main contingencies are accurate... but I did use some artistic license on some of the secondary contingencies. As a side note... when I stripped the car I had unintentionally destroyed the fuel cap. Being creative I simply clipped off 1/4" off the head of a 8 penny nail, painted it silver and glued it in... looked better than the original.
As a Marlin collector this single car was something I had hunted for years. Sam, with your beautiful decals you made this car a reality for my collection. They were gorgeous... Wishing all of you at "3 Amigos" the very best... Thank you sincerely for a job well done. I will be back for more soon enough... I.e. Sterling's St. Jude's car and his Texas car are my next great mission.

The car, as actually raced, had the white "40". You may want to note that you included both on your sheet as most of my Sterling collector buddies preferred the red despite it not being "accurate"."

This car rang absolutely no bells with me, so I did some digging in the UMI 1998 yearbook. As far as I can see, Sterling ran this colour scheme in one race, the EXIDE NASCAR SELECT BATTERIES 400 at Richmond in September of 1998. He started fourth, and finished 15th, one lap down after cutting a tire down.
