Corvair Short Track

Note From Kevin:

"..the model is diecast. The real Corvair is a '64 but to make it I used a '63 Corvair Diecast 1/18th scale and chopped it to match the body condition of the real Corvair. I used the chassis from a General Lee Charger for the base, tires and roll bar and an inline fuel filter for the through the hood air filter.

The colour is Sunoco blue. There is a story behind the car not having sponsor decals or lettering at this time which involved more than one driver at Sunset for a few races but I don't know the whole story.

This car was a 6 cylinder in the Diamond class and raced by my Uncle at Sunset Speedway in Stroud Ontario in the early '70s. The chassis for the Corvair was actually from a '57 Pontiac (also raced at Sunset and track Champion for the class in '68). Sunset had the original 'Soft Walls' back then if you notice the berm of sand along the front stretch in the background of the Victory Lane picture.
