Buddy Arrington's 1977 ROADRUNNER

Comment from James:

"..Buddy was the only driver (in Cup that is) to drive this body style (which is odd in that it sure looks cleaner than the Charger) and was his main on-track weapon for 74 to late April of 77. Buddy's car morphed thru a few color schemes, the first (run in 1974-early 75) was an ugly plum purple with yellow numbering/lettering, then to a bright red with a blue roof, then to the colors shown here. I dug thru the Cyberwombat site and found one picture with this color combo, which more or less matches the Charger he ran from late APR 77 thru the end of that season. I'm sure this car, and the Chargers were re-bodied to Magnums.

Now, about the model: the body and chassis came from a MPC 1974 Road Runner I built in 1974. The engine is from a Polar Lights Charger, the wheels from a modern day Taurus kit, tires from a Polar Lights Torino, the rollcage/dash and interior bits are from an early 80's Buick Regal. The rear spoiler is scratch built from sheet plastic. Last but not least the decals: the 67's & hood/trunk sponsors are from the Cherry Run sheet, the Tom Prange Chrysler are from Fred Cady's Arrington sheet (which is sadly out of production), and the front fender associate sponsors are from various excess sheets I had laying around. This is a thoroughly Heinz 57 production, but I wanted to build it, as the car has been overlooked by the NASCAR modeling community."
