Jeff Gordon's 1999 Diehard 500 Monte Carlo...

Before and After!

Note From Jay:

"Here is my attempt at Jeff Gordon's April 1999 Talladega Diehard 500 car where he finished in 38th place. The cars turned out great, but unfortunately I could not get the perfect picture that showed how awesome they really turned out.

I built the "wrecked car" and the "repaired car." I started out by painting both cars. Next, using a candle, I very carefully "wrecked" one car using the set of pictures I had to go by. A special thanks to Randy Ayers for his help in this area.

I gave the impression of a flat right rear tire by extending the rim out ever so slightly from the inner wheel. The windows went in next which also required some "candle work." Finally, with a lot of decal solvent and patience the decals went on. This was the hardest part of the car."

More Notes...
"On the "repaired car" I cut out the wheel opening and then painted the "repaired" area with Dupli-color light chestnut followed by Testers dullcote. The "duct tape" was made by using silver paint and 1/8 inch masking tape. There you have it, unfortunately Earnhardt won the race."
