Richard Petty's 1970 Short Track Plymouth Road Runner

Note From Daniel: "Here’s my take on Richard Petty’s 1970 short track Plymouth Road Runner. Built with Monogram’s street Road Runner, I kit bashed a T-bird roll cage and a few other bits with lots of Evergreen plastic. Painted with Tamiya TS 23 paint and decals are Slixx. Plastic Performance Parts wheels and Shabo tire transfers are used on the tires. My reference photo doesn’t have a window net, so this precedes Richard's nasty tumble at Darlington.

Examining the You Tube video of said crash gave me some under chassis details like the cross bars, exhaust pipe shapes and fuel cell and radiator fairings. The actual car had a lot more of the chassis boxed in than what I did. The Wing Car Seminar in Randy Ayer’s NASCAR Modeling Forum gave me a lot of the details in chassis and roll cage construction. Hot Rod’s Hemi tribute issue (Winter 2007) also gave some typical era details.

Scratch built items include air cleaner, intake manifold, master brake cylinder, shocks and oil pan. Heavy aluminum tape was used for the bumper fairings."
