Rex White's '62 NASCAR CHEVY 409

Note From Chuck:
"Rex White was the 1960 NASCAR champion driving the 'W' motored Chevrolets. The 409 had been improved for 1962, but it was clear that this engine was not able to stay with the Pontiacs or the Fords on the larger high speed tracks. This engine was considered a good 'torque motor' and performed well on the small paved & dirt tracks. Ned Jarrett told me that his would come apart if the r.p.m. limit of 6000 was exceeded. Chevrolet was giving alot of factory support to Ned & also Rex's teams, but they tried to keep a low profile.

The body is one of the first resin bodies cast by Don Holthaus. I did all of the decals by hand using sign painter's paint on clear decal film. Decals are now commercially available for several of Rex's cars, but there was nothing available when I built this model 17 years ago."

(Note from Mr NASCAR: - As with Mike Madlinger, Chuck Poi was an inspiration to me to get into NASCAR modelling after seeing his work in Toledo in the '80's and '90's. Chuck is an original DarkSider! Chuck was also a major contributor to Motor Racing Replica News Magazine in its heyday, as the resident NASCAR expert. Thanks for sharing these great models, Chuck!

Here is info on Chuck's line of vintage resin NASCAR - his was the first resin I ever tried, with great results!:
