Vintage NASCAR Models from Chuck Poi!!!

Norm Nelson's 1963 USAC Plymouth

Note From Chuck:
"Racine, Wisconsin's Norm Nelson was a regular on the United States Auto Club(USAC) for many years and won his first stock car championship with them in 1960. He went on his own in '61 and '62, staying with a Ford, and finished 2nd and 3rd in points for those 2 seasons. Chrysler was interested in getting into USAC stock car racing and persuaded Norm to field 2 Plymouths with factory support. Norm drove the #3 car and had A.J. Foyt and later Paul Goldsmith drive the #5 car. Both cars performed well with the new 426 "Max Wedge" engines. The #5 car won at Indianapolis Raceway Park and Langhorne with Foyt behind the wheel, and Illiana Speedway with Goldsmith.

Model is Nostalgia Race Models resin Savoy body and wheel/tires. Running gear was Petty Lindberg kit. Resin wedge engine pieces were used in place of hemi parts. Fred Cady decals were used on front fender, hand-painted 4 color angle style door number, and computer generated decals for driver name and sponsor. "

(Note from Mr NASCAR: - As with Mike Madlinger, Chuck Poi was an inspiration to me to get into NASCAR modelling after seeing his work in Toledo in the '80's and '90's. Chuck is an original DarkSider! Chuck was also a major contributor to Motor Racing Replica News Magazine in its heyday, as the resident NASCAR expert. Thanks for sharing these great models, Chuck!

Here is info on Chuck's line of vintage resin NASCAR - his was the first resin I ever tried, with great results!:
