Bobby Allison's 1971 Coke Fairlane

Note From Chuck:
"With factory support gone for the new 1971 season, Holman-Moody was free to select any legal Ford body to race with. For the intermediate and short tracks they chose the Fairlane body rather than the Cobra with its slightly concave shaped rear window and trunk. It was actually a Torino front end bolted to the Mercury Cyclone body. Bobby Allison replaced a departing David Pearson and brought along the Coca Cola sponsorship. While the '69 Mercury they ran on the high speed tracks grabbed most of the headlines, this Fairlane did win at Dover.

I mated one of my old resin Torino dog houses to the Merc Cyclone resin body. One of the rare JNJ sheets that had all 3 styles of numbers that appearred on Bobby's cars gave me the inspiration. All decals on this model are the way they appeared for the Volunteer 400 at Bristol where Bobby placed 2nd. Note that this car had the phrase "here's the real thing" rather than "it's the real thing" that was on the Monte Carlo.

Bobby made a personal appearance at an Indy car show 2 years ago. I printed a picture of this car from his web site for him to autograph. He not only signed that picture, he also took the model and autographed the roof too! A great honor!"

(Note from Mr NASCAR: - As with Mike Madlinger, Chuck Poi was an inspiration to me to get into NASCAR modelling after seeing his work in Toledo in the '80's and '90's. Chuck is an original DarkSider! Chuck was also a major contributor to Motor Racing Replica News Magazine in its heyday, as the resident NASCAR expert. Thanks for sharing these great models, Chuck!

Here is info on Chuck's line of vintage resin NASCAR - his was the first resin I ever tried, with great results!:
From Chuck: "I offer resin cast bodies, kits, and parts of stock cars from '55-'72 under the name of Nostalgia Race Models. My email is Chuksducks@yahoo.com. My phone is 317-356-6770." )
