decals by BULLRING GRAPHIX!

"In the early 1970s Maier was the protégé of Ed Howe and drove the house car to wins all over the Midwest. After leaving Howe he picked up the ride in the Owosso Furniture Camaro for the 1975 and 1976 seasons. This build was inspired by some photos sent along by Jim Hehl who has an all red 1975 version. I saw this car win one of the big summer invitationals at Cayuga in 1976 against a field that included the likes of Bob Senneker, Earl Ross, Donnie Allison, Don Biederman and Junior Hanley.
I had an old MPC Camaro body lying around and mated this with the chassis from the Model King Super Stocker reissue. You can use either the GTO or the Monte Carlo as the chassis is the same under both. You need to be sure to glue the chassis for the shorter wheelbase version. If you don’t have a mid-70s Camaro you can get the proper resin front end from Fred’s Resin Workshop (http://www.fredsresinworkshop.com/) and use this to convert the AMT 1970 ˝ Camaro kit. You will need to update the bumpers though, and Lookout has you covered there. Click Here (http://www.lookoutmodel.com/body).

The Camaro body fits pretty well but you have to move the front hoop back to get it to fit behind the front end. I opened the grill and parking lights up and made a spoiler out of sheet Evergreen. The kit bumpers had been lost to the years so the Lookout pieces were a welcome addition. I finished these with Alclad Chrome Spray over Krylon Gloss Black.
The bottom of the kit windshield should be trimmed back to allow for the hood to fit. I still have to do this for mine.
The kit wheels were replaced by Wide 5’s from Plastic Performance parts and the tires are from an AMT Winston Cup with SLIXX Hoosier lettering from their Nostaligic tire decals sheet.
The kit was lowered by cutting up the back of the wheels but otherwise was built pretty much box stock. I did add a window net made from some mesh and medical tape.
The decals went on very well but there were some minor changes to the sizing after the test build. We also found a problem with the print files that resulted in the test sheet being a little less crisp than usual. This is noticeable in the Owosso Michigan logo on the left rear quarter panel in the pictures but it has been corrected for the production sheets.
The asymmetric paint scheme on this car with the numbers on the rear quarter on the right side made this car stand out. The end result captures the look of the real car pretty well."
