Dave Whitlock's 2004 Avenue Intrepid CASCAR

decals by BULLRING GRAPHIX!

Story by Rod:
"Dave Whitlock is well known in Canada as a 3-time National Champion in CASCAR and also throughout the northeast from his foray into ACT in the early 1990s where he won the Oxford 250 and twice he got to kiss the cow after winning the Milk Bowl. When Ford pulled out of CASCAR and Whitlock found himself without a major sponsor, he switched to Dodge and barely missed a beat. The first season with the Intrepid featured several different schemes and he won 3 Super Series races. One of the sponsors was Avenue Motor Works and they returned for 2004 with a full sponsorship and their brilliant teal, white and purple colour scheme. Whitlock drove the car to wins in the Canada Day Shootout at Cayuga and the Mopar 500 in Calgary. He ended up 3rd in the final standings and was in contention until the final race of the season.

The model is based on the Revel 2004 Intrepid offering as the CASCAR teams got an updated nosepiece for 2004 that was almost identical to the one used in NASCAR since 2003. The body modifications to make the Cup body look more like a CASCAR included sanding off the hood hinges, the roof rails, filling the roof flaps and cutting down the rear spoiler. I also filled in the left-side exhaust and made a set of right side pipes going out through the body.

The chassis and the wheels are painted a dark metallic gray. Redlines were added to the wheels by scraping the edge to the white plastic with a sharp #11 blade and then runing a Red Sharpie along the edge. The kit window net was replaced with a see-through style net made from some black nylon mesh ribbon and some strips of masking tape painted flat black. The M&R logo and the safety tag were printed on paper and glued to the edge of the net. The CASCAR teams ran white lettered Goodyears in 2004 and these came from the SLIXX vintage tire decals sheet.

The rest of the decals are all ALPs printed from Bullring Graphix. This sheet is now available."
